AI Scam Utilising Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s Music Sparks Warning
British pop sensation Sophie Ellis-Bextor raises the red flag to her fans about a rising AI scam that illegitimately features her music.
The chart-topping artist, known for her beloved hit ‘Murder On The Dancefloor,’ took to Instagram to alert fans about a fraudulent AI-generated advertisement which has been circulating on the platform. The ad contains not only her music but also a voiceover generated with AI technology that mimics her voice.
“I’ve been made aware there is a scam advert going around with footage of me and an AI generated voiceover of me. Please don’t trust anything I don’t post on my own Insta…” the singer advised her fans through Instagram Stories.
‘Murder On The Dancefloor,’ featured in the Netflix series Saltburn, had been repurposed through an AI VoiceOver generator for several bogus Instagram ads, misleading fans into surrendering their credit card information.
The smash hit song – following its exposure through Saltburn in late 2023 – has ignited a TikTok craze and even landed a spot in the Billboard Hot 100. It also climbed the British single charts, peaking at Number Two recently.
